Unfinished Conversations
Some friends carried more than school and home should ever ask of them. They left before anyone could say the things that needed saying. This project gives those words somewhere to go. You write what you never told them, tie it to a kite, and let the wind take it.
I designed and built the kite kit myself, from the frame to the paper you write on. The kit makes the ritual simple enough that anyone can do it, alone or together, without needing to explain their grief to a single person.

Children
Working with the Hana Cultural Foundation, I adapted the project for younger children. In Korea, the pressure starts early. Kids carry frustrations toward their parents that they never feel safe enough to voice. This version lets them write what they resent, what they wish they could say, what stays stuck. Then they fly it. The kite says it for them.

Seniors
Through an official collaboration with Eungok Senior Center, the project will reach older participants who have outlived friends and family. They write to the people they have already lost. The ritual stays the same. Only the distance the words have to travel changes.

Kite
I made the kite from hanji, traditional Korean mulberry paper. Hanji is light, strong, and holds ink well without bleeding. The kite is shaped like a bird with its wings fully spread.

I designed the box that holds all the components together, so the kite, message panel, and guide postcard arrive as one complete set.
